Day 39 Practice
Focus: Bandwidth & Transmission
Practice Question
A video file is 120 megabytes. A network connection has 20 megabits per second bandwidth. Approximately how long to transmit the file? (Note: 1 byte = 8 bits)
Why This Answer?
Convert: 120 MB = 120 × 8 = 960 megabits. Time = 960 megabits ÷ 20 megabits/sec = 48 seconds.
Why Not the Others?
A) Forgot to convert bytes to bits.
C) Divided instead of multiplied in byte-to-bit conversion.
D) Math error in calculation.
Common Mistake
Watch Out!
Forgetting that 1 byte = 8 bits. Must convert file size to bits before dividing by bandwidth.
AP Exam Tip
Always check units! Bandwidth usually in bits/sec, file sizes in bytes. Convert before calculating.
