How this page works

The writing boxes below are yours. What you type stays in this browser, is saved here as you go, and is never sent to us or to your teacher. Hand the written work in the way your teacher asked for it.

The graded check at the bottom is the part that records to your teacher's gradebook.

The cases, from your handoutNot recorded

The same cases as your handout, in the same order.

Scenario 1 · Foundational

A student drops a CC-tagged illustration into a history presentation. The Creative Commons tag clearly allows reuse in schoolwork, so the student figures the legal side is handled and lists no sources at all. Advise the student.

Ruling (route, violation, or concern - named with CED vocabulary):

Fix + required credit (what makes it legitimate):

Enrichment - second concern to layer (harm, bias, monitoring, divide):

Scenario 2 · Core

A gaming channel re-uploads another creator's highlight video, found 'free online,' with new thumbnails and a monetized ad slot. The channel owner argues: the original was posted publicly, views are free, and re-uploading is 'how the Internet works.' Advise the channel.

Ruling (route, violation, or concern - named with CED vocabulary):

Fix + required credit (what makes it legitimate):

Enrichment - second concern to layer (harm, bias, monitoring, divide):

Scenario 3 · Core

A robotics team finds another team's autopilot code published under an open-source license. They want to modify it heavily for their own robot and enter regional competition with it. One member objects: 'Changing someone's code without asking is stealing.' Advise the team.

Ruling (route, violation, or concern - named with CED vocabulary):

Fix + required credit (what makes it legitimate):

Enrichment - second concern to layer (harm, bias, monitoring, divide):

Scenario 4 · Challenge

A startup builds a paid study-summary app. Its pipeline ingests two feeds: (a) open-access research papers, and (b) articles scraped from a subscription journal by borrowing a university's login. Summaries appear in the app with no sources listed 'to keep the interface clean.' Advise the startup before launch.

Ruling (route, violation, or concern - named with CED vocabulary):

Fix + required credit (what makes it legitimate):

Enrichment - second concern to layer (harm, bias, monitoring, divide):

Scenario 5 · Challenge

A district accepts free 'engagement analytics' software for school laptops. It runs continuously - logging keystrokes, webcam attention checks, and app usage at home and school - and flags 'low-engagement students' with an algorithm trained on last year's top-performing classes, which skewed wealthy. Families without district laptops must install it on personal devices to submit homework. Advise the district.

Ruling (route, violation, or concern - named with CED vocabulary):

Fix + required credit (what makes it legitimate):

Enrichment - second concern to layer (harm, bias, monitoring, divide):

About the line in your handout

Your handout says this exercise is available online and auto-graded. The exercise IS here, and it is the same work in the same order, but the auto-graded half is not written for this topic yet. Nothing on this page is scored or sent to your teacher.

Hand this in the way your teacher asked for it. Topic 1.1 has its graded check today, and the rest follow.
